What is the Christian response to the claim that the Bible has been corrupted?
I've heard that the Bible we have today isn't what was originally written. Is this true?
The claim that the Bible has been significantly corrupted doesn't hold up against the manuscript evidence. We have over 5,800 Greek New Testament manuscripts, plus tens of thousands more in Latin and other languages, with copies dating within decades of the originals — far more and far earlier than any other ancient text.
Textual scholars use these manuscripts to compare readings, and the variants that exist are overwhelmingly minor (spelling, word order) with no impact on doctrine. Discoveries like the Dead Sea Scrolls confirmed that the Old Testament text was transmitted with remarkable accuracy over a thousand years.
Rather than being corrupted, the Bible is, by a wide margin, the best-attested document from the ancient world.
